The Supreme Court of New Jersey Decides Important Palimony Case

On September 25, 2014, the Supreme Court of New Jersey decided that oral palimony agreements predating the enactment of the 2010 amendment to the Statute of Frauds (which required palimony agreements to be in writing) are still enforceable. The Supreme Court decided that the legislature did not intend for the 2010 amendment to apply retroactively; thus any agreements entered into before the enactment do not need to be in writing in order to be enforceable.
